Joel Madden is one of several celebrities starring in the new “Back to School” campaign for OP, the laid-back surfer-style clothing line.

Annalynne McCord, Sophia Bush, Solange Knowles, Brody Jenner and Cody Linley all appear alongside Joel in the “OPen Campus” campaign, which features the stars getting ready for the upcoming school year, hanging out on the OP bus, cheering on their favorite team in the school’s bleachers and more. The campaign was shot at UCLA by Larry Bartholomew. The same group of stars appeared in OP’s summer campaign, which was called “Summer of Music.”

Here’s a behind the scenes video from the campaign, it shows the six stars taking part in one of the photo shoots involving a piggy back race.

Nicole Richie was every bit the bohemian mom as she visited a toy store in Santa Monica with Harlow last weekend. I loved her laid back colorful look.

Nicole Richie designed a capsule maternity line for Pea in a Pod and treated us to a sneak peek on her website. You can see the photos here. They aren’t so much about the collection as they are about Nicole working on it, but it’s still nice to see something from all the design work she’s been up to lately!

Nicole’s post about the collection was very brief. She writes:

Pea in the Pod and I joined to create a capsule collection of maternity wear that will be available in stores this summer. Last weekend I shot some images for the campaign with one of my favorite photographers, James White.

I’m really excited for you all to see the new collection.

The line is expected to hit stores this fall.

I stumbled across some photos of Nicole Richie that I think are new. It’s really hard to tell, given Nicole’s hair is up and her purse is blocking her tummy. Plus, the description was super helpful saying she was “out and about in LA”. But, enjoy!

Nicole Richie is gearing up to expand her very successful House of Harlow 1960 line of accessories to include clothes and shoes. Nicole Richie herself confirmed the expansion into shoes in April, more information about the expanding line has been coming out.

Nicole recently shared with Singer22 that her new collection will be a “totally different line”.

“Doing a clothing line is really a full time job. I wanted to do what was closest to my heart and where my head was at was jewelry and accessories. I wear a ton of jewelry and artistically that was where I was feeling like I had a really clear idea of the designs that I wanted to do. That’s just where we started. Then I met up with Pascal and he is such a genius! It just felt like the perfect time and the perfect fit.”

Nicole shares that her initial accessories line was inspired by her own personal vintage collection, a lot of which she’d picked up while traveling: much was inspired by India and Africa. Nicole shares that she’s still in the middle of the design process for the shoe and clothing collection, aiming to pick the right fabrics.

As for accessories, we can expect something different from Nicole!

The second collection of House of Harlow will be out next year as well. I’m in the design process for that also. It’s a completely different direction and a completely different inspiration. It is focusing more on old English, equestrian, and more sophisticated looks. It is going to be a totally different line and I’m really excited about it!

The line is expected to be ready for Spring 2010.

Joel Madden went on quite the soul searching twitter stream last night, writing about being a father and what that means to him. It looks like he’s one of several celebrities who are putting things into perspective after the death of Michael Jackson.

The conversation started when Joel couldn’t sleep:

Why is it that i can’t sleep. And i constantly have to go in and check on harlow when i can’t sleep, but if i wake her up MOM will be Pissed

It gets really cute after this. Joel calls Harlow his little buddy.

Serioulsy sometimes i just wanna wake her up and hangout. She’s my little best friend. But just like her mom she likes to sleep more than me.

Joel then qualifies these statements by not claiming to be the best dad in the world - but he promises us he’s trying!

I’m not the best dad, but i def put more effort into being dad then i ever have at anything else. Nothing is more important than my kids.

Finally, he gives Nicole props for being a great mom.

And for the record. I’m an alright dad. Its Nicole that is the super MOM. She does all the hard stuff, and makes me look good. 100% Goodnite.

I think his is adorable and it shows how strong and loving Nicole and Joel’s little family is. I think Joel is a great dad and I’m looking forward to watching their family grow.

Nicole Richie really seems to be enjoying her second pregnancy and it shows! She’s looking great, going out lots with Joel, Harlow and her friends and kept up her awesome fashion sense.

Joel Madden agrees that the second time around is agreeing with the couple. Before DJing at Prive on June 19th, Joel talked to People.com about the second pregnancy and trumped the rumors that they know it’s a boy.

“We don’t know what the sex is,” he said. “We waited on the first one and it was such an awesome experience that we can’t wait to see what the next one is. It’s exciting to wait it out.”

Joel has also been enjoying fatherhood. He twittered the adorable photo to the right and wrote:

This pretty much sums up how being a dad makes me feel. I dont know what i did to deserve such an awesome kid.

Joel also admitted that the second time around has been a lot easier on both of them. “You’ve already been through it and it’s not as intense and dramatic,” he said. “We’re a little more relaxed. It’s actually kind of nice.”

I’m glad they’re less stressed and are taking the time to enjoy the experience!

Both Nicole Richie and her daughter Harlow looked adorable as they did some shopping on June 13th. The twosome enjoyed spending some time browsing at a toy store before picking up more practical things like groceries.

Nicole twittered about her and Harlow’s adventure out, writing:

I know @joelmadden is going to make fun of me, but I found the BEST toy store today ! Acorn in santa monica;ALL natural & wooden toys

Nicole is very concerned about keeping things natural and organic for Harlow. I’m glad to see this attitude applies to everything, even toys! It looks like this trip was a success, because Nicole came out of the store with a doll house and magnetic tabletop easel for Harlow!

Nicole looked great in skinny jeans, an oversized black and white cover-up and a colorful printed bag. I’m loving her pregnancy style - lots of moms-to-be should really follow Nicole’s lead!

Harlow’s peeptoe Mary Janes are too cute! She’s definitely giving Suri Cruise a run for her money in the stylish tots department.

Michael Jackson, the King of Pop and one of Nicole Richie’s godfathers, passed away yesterday. He was taken to a Los Angeles hospital for a cardiac arrest but died of still unknown causes. Several websites now have obituaries and “in memorial” posts up commemorating the life of one of music’s greatest artists.

Nicole had two godfathers - Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones. Quincy was also very close to Michael and released a statement following his death:

“I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news. I’ve lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him.”

While many celebrities went to Twitter to express their shock and sadness, Nicole was quiet once the news broke. Seeing as she was actually close to the pop star, this is understandable. Joel Madden urged his fans to avoid speculation until his death was confirmed, twittering:

Stop the gossip, stop the speculation. Take a moment for Micheal and remember his gift to us all. He was truly great. May he Rest in Peace.

Once the major news outlets confirmed the story, Joel got off his computer to be with his family.

I’m getting off the computer. Gonna spend time with my family. It was a sad day. Need a break from all of this. Rest in Peace Michael.

My thoughts and prayers are with Michael’s family and loved ones today.
