Everyone is talking about Nicole!
Well, you know you are famous when people drop your name when they are talking about their own weight and speculate that specific songs are written with you in mind!
The first big story is that when Mischa Barton was questioned about her weight, she said:
“I am a normal weight…I understand the responsibility that comes with a role in a TV show that is watched by millions of teenagers… but the thing is that I am naturally this shape. I have a very fast metabolism and it is sometimes annoying when you are compared to people who are clearly not naturally that way. I am sensitive to people like Nicole (Richie) who have body issues, but I am always pretty much the same weight.”
However, a lot of Hollywood critics have taken this to mean that Mischa is attacking Nicole! I do not that that is fair at all. While I believe Mischa made the mistake of dropping Nicole’s name, Nicole’s weight and recent health issues have been in the media a lot and she has been open and honest about them. Plus, Nicole and Mischa are friends! Don’t take it to mean anymore than it is. Poor Nicole gets ripped into when she’s chubby, and then again when she’s thin. And poor Mischa gets ripped into for being naturally skinny. (Which I believe, by the way).
But things aren’t ligthening up for any of these young Hollywood stars.
Hilary Duff released her new album, Dignity. Critics are trying to label this album as a “break-up” album and are trying to frame some of the songs as anti-Nicole themed. Hilary says this in a recent interview:
“Of course, everyone wants to focus on the songs that are supposedly about his girlfriend. So it’s hurtful. I don’t
have anything against Nicole Richie. I don’t know her. And I care about Joel and I want them to be happy.”
She also says:
“I don’t think it’s a positive thing,” said Duff of behaviour ranging from panty-less outings to trips to rehabs. “People have to learn for themselves, I guess. But being in this business (brings) a responsibility to certain people, and not just young girls. Older girls look up to younger girls who are famous.
Why even ask her about this?!
My take is that Hilary is a very mature girl, who understands that break-ups suck and being an artist means stuff like break-ups will affect your art. I think that this is the media trying to get Hilary to say something she doesn’t mean so they can paint a Hilary vs. Nicole tabloid debacle for all of us to see.
But maybe, just maybe, I’m naive.
