Nicole Richie & Joel Madden’s Surprise Getaway

Joel Madden surprised Nicole Richie this weekend with a family getaway to the California desert.

“[Nicole] hasn’t been able to do a whole lot over the year, so we’re having a little family trip,” Joal told People last night at the BPM Hpnotiq Smurf House, where he was DJing.

“I [rented] a house and surprised Nicole with a weekend trip because she likes Coachella. She was like, ‘I really want to go!’ So I surprised her. We brought the baby.”

The vacation is meant to be pretty low-key and will involve lots of “hanging by the pool.”

I think this is such a sweet surprise for Nicole!
